Welcome to the new STEW Home Page!

Welcome to the redesigned home page for the Social Theory and Evidence Workshop at www.stewchicago.com. Take a look around at our updated schedule and peruse the rebuilt archive of previous announcements and content. We have been hard at work on the revamp; please let us know how we did in the comments!

UPDATES:

  • Short, easy to remember domain name www.stewchicago.com, which forwards to the STEW homepage
  • New user-controlled e-mail list registration–subscribe and unsubscribe for STEW announcements to be sent to any e-mail address(es) you like
  • New web interface: Optimized for mobile and tablets, PC Android and Mac. This site is better equipped for Google Analytics as well with stable permalinks.
  • Click/touch text in blue to access links in a new window: names go to profiles; locations go to a Google Maps page

Photo of a snowman on the UChicago Midway by Antoine Jones
One of the many sights that greeted Antoine as a prospective student arriving to the University of Chicago for the first time. All of the photos on the new STEW site are from his very first visit to campus.
  • Homepage refreshed with photos of the UChicago campus taken by Antoine J, STEW’s current Student Coordinator
  • Incomplete data restored: The new site represents a complete STEW history from 2009 to the present
  • Updated About page with STEW’s expanded mission of inviting vegans and vegetarians to enjoy lunch and conversation with us
  • Updated Schedule for Winter 2015
  • Updated Contacts page with the current STEW leadership

STEW has been successful because of the participation of professors, graduate students and guests from across the social sciences. We hope this revamped homepage allows STEW to continue to mature and grow as a mainstay institution within CAS, SSR and the greater UChicago community. Stay tuned to this new page as we work on new ways to communicate with our loyal attendees and invite new people to experience STEW, the premier social sciences workshop!

STEW runs on select Mondays each quarter from 12:00 to 1:20 PM. See out schedule for presenters, dates and locations. All are welcome to attend. Anyone who has questions or concerns should contact Antoine at antoinej (at) uchicago.edu.

Please tell us how you like the new site in the comments section!

New STEW e-mail list

The old STEW listserv is being deactivated. Users who were on the latest list were sent an e-mail letting them know to come over to the new STEW site at stewchicago.com to register. Below are the directions for the new STEW e-mail list.

The new e-mail list is user controlled: On the home page, look to the right sidebar for the space to enter your e-mail address (use any address you like) and click Subscribe. A confirmation e-mail will be sent if you’re registered successfully. Every time a new announcement is posted on the STEW page, you’ll receive it directly to your inbox.

To unsubscribe from the list (we’re sorry to see you go), enter your e-mail in the same space to the right and click Unsubscribe. You will receive a confirmation e-mail that you are off the list.

Announcements will still go out to the Sociology Department student and faculty listservs to UChicago addresses. We hope this e-mail list aids our more casual attendees and those folks who have a more preferable e-mail address with which to receive announcements.

As always, tell us how we are doing, and how we can get better in the comments.

New easy to remember STEW web address

You can quickly reach the NEW STEW home page at www.stewchicago.com. This URL simply forwards directly to the homepage at STEW’s traditional address at http://cas.uchicago.edu/workshops/socialtheoryandevidence/.

We hope the new address aids in quick memory of our new online home and improve branding opportunities in the coming quarters.
