The University of Chicago has launched the Secure Data Enclave (SDE) as a service designed to provide a secure computing environment for University of Chicago researchers who work with sensitive data. In many cases, this sensitive data consists of, or includes, personally identifiable information that is subject to federal, state, and/or international laws and regulations. This workshop will provide an overview of the laws and regulations applicable to personally identifiable information with a particular emphasis on how they apply in the context of University research.
Objectives: Attendees will learn about the data privacy laws and regulations that most often apply to University research, how to identify information that may be subject to those laws and regulations, and the strategies and resources available for researchers seeking to work with such data.
