Grant Writing: Developing a Proposal

The research development team provides comprehensive support throughout the proposal process:

Prepare to Apply

  • Find funding opportunities
  • Create Pivot account to receive funding alerts
  • Update profiles in NSF FastLane, NIH eRA Commons, etc.
  • Provide workshops and training sessions

Project Development

  • Identify and coordinate collaborating institutions and researchers
  • Develop proposal outlines, budgets, timelines, project management tools, comprehensive funding strategies and strategic plans
  • Advise on all aspects of proposal development including clarity, logic, and organization
  • Coordinate internal and external funding strategies with entities across the University

Proposal Review

  • Position, edit and proofread
  • Provide access to sample successful proposals
  • Coordinate proposal reviews and provide feedback to investigators

Visualization and Graphic Design

  • Contract with data visualization providers, graphic designers, and web designers to enhance research proposals and communications collateral

Pre-Award

  • Coordinate with SSD Grants Administrators
  • Review and confirm compliance
  • Initiate online application
  • Route to University Research Administration
  • Submit to Sponsor
