2018 Research Grants RFP Available Now

The HMSO is now seeking proposals for 2018 research grants and will fund two categories of research in 2018: (1) field-initiated pre-doctoral projects by students at the University of Chicago, working under close supervision of faculty mentors; and (2) field-initiated faculty projects with a University of Chicago faculty member as principal investigator, which may involve work by faculty, graduate students, and practitioners both within and outside the University of Chicago.

The HMSO will support a range of study types, employing a variety of disciplinary tools and perspectives to examine questions pertinent to enhancing the educational and life chances of disadvantaged students. Two kinds of intervention are of particular interest: those occurring early (during pre-elementary and elementary years) that show potential to assist public school children who otherwise would be at high risk of entering high school with poor academic and non-academic skills; and those that occur later (during the secondary school years) that show great potential to enable public school students with comparatively low skills to gain the skills, dispositions, and information needed for successful transitions into the labor market.

Applications are due May 29, 2018. For more information about this year’s research grant competition, including who may apply and the process for submitting an application, read the full 2018 RFP or contact Lisa Rosen to schedule a pre-submission consultation: rosen@uchicago.edu
