Project Abstract:  This shadow play piece is an attempt to render into performance one of Gertrude Stein’s numerous ‘unstageable’ plays, Byron: A Play. Working in the medium of shadow puppetry, this performance experiment explores how, if at all, Stein’s words may be expressed performatively. For the workshop, Marissa and Sharvari will perform a small excerpt from the piece, and share a video of the performance.

The full text of Byron: A Play may be found here. The performance piece is based on pgs 333-340.

This Workshop is co-sponsored by the 20th/21st Century Workshop.
