Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q – Why is the UChicago Sites service going away?
The University is retiring UChicago Sites as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the risk profile of the University’s web properties ecosystem. Voices is a scalable, sustainable solution for website hosting and provides greater visual design flexibility than UChicago Sites.
Q – When does my UChicago Site websites need to be moved to another website platform?
All websites hosted on UChicago Sites need to be migrated to Voices or another website platform (or archived) by August 1, 2019.
Q – If I don’t move my website, what will happen to it after August 1, 2019?
Your website will no longer be available online as of August 1, 2019. Upon request, you may obtain an archive of your website in html format. You will need to recreate your site in an alternative platform such as voices.uchicago.edu.
Q – If I need assistance moving my site to Voices, who do I contact?
If you prefer to migrate your own content but need a bit of support, in-person assistance is available at the Techbar at Regenstein Library on Tuesdays from 1:00 until 6:00 pm and Wednesdays from 2:00 until 5:00 pm. You can also visit the UChicago Voices tutorial as well as the Support page. If you would like Web Services to migrate your content for you, please contact Web Services at email@example.com. Requests will be accepted until April 1, 2019. Please note that Web Services charges on a per-page basis for migrating content.
Q - Is there an automated way to move UChicago Sites website content to Voices?
There is no completely automated way to migrate your website content to the Voices platform. CampusPress, the vendor that manages Voices, recommends that you set up a self-hosted WordPress website and import the content from Drupal to that website. From there you can then use the WordPress Importer Tool to export the content into a WXR (xml) file that can be imported into your new Voices website. You will still need to check through your pages and make additional edits before publishing.
If you’d like to work with Web Services to migrate your site, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Q - How can I determine whether Voices is right for me?
Q- Which website templates are available in Voices?
The UChicago Unit Template is the Voices template that is most closely aligned with UChicago branding and the UChicago Sites template. You can choose this template when you create your Voices site. There is also the BSD Template, which is not publicly available for all customers. If you would like to use the BSD template, please send a request to email@example.com.
