AEPP Student Spotlight: Carina K

Today, we’re highlighting a winning submission from the 2019 AEPP Finding Chicago: Global Perspectives project. The AEPP-Writing students wrote blog posts on an issue in North American or Chicago culture that captured their attention. Today’s featured blog is from Carina K., a UChicago MAPSS student. Congratulations, Carina!

In this blog, Carina discusses the Chicago neighborhood of Humboldt Park, one of Chicago’s most rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods: “John Roeser steps out of the bakehouse, a man in his mid 60’s with a firm stature, grey hair and a well-trimmed mustache. “If our family business hadn’t adapted to changes, we wouldn’t be here anymore,” Roeser states…Staying for Roeser meant not only to change the baking goods he sold, but also to adapt socially and to personally integrate into a new community.”
