AEPP Student Spotlight: Alvin L.

Today, we’re highlighting a winning submission from the 2019 AEPP Finding Chicago: Global Perspectives project. The AEPP-Writing students wrote blog posts on an issue in North American or Chicago culture that captured their attention. Today’s featured blog is from Alvin L., a @UChicago_MAPSS Masters student. Congratulations, Alvin!

In this blog, Alvin discusses the Chicago neighborhood of Bronzeville, which used to be the center of Black culture in the city: “[T]he fortune of Bronzeville declined rapidly following the end of World War 2. Among several factors that contributed to the deterioration of Bronzeville, Chicago’s post-war urban transport policies are the most insidious…The story of Bronzeville should serve as a reminder that misguided policies can ruin an entire community for generations.”

This is our final 2019 Finding Chicago spotlight! But don’t worry, we’ll resume this series in Autumn, showcasing all the great work of our 2020 AEPP students!
