ELI Staff Film Recommendations: Shane

“My favorite film is ‘Ikiru’ (1952), directed by Akira Kurosawa.

“A typical low level government office worker finds out that he will die soon and embarks upon trying to leave something behind so that people will remember him.

“I love it because Kurosawa addresses what it means to be human and live a life both while you are alive and how people will view your life after you pass. It’s not a “light” film, but one that I recommend watching if the question of “but why?” pops up in your mind. Classic cinematography, images, and symbolism from a classic director, actually you can’t go wrong with anything Kurosawa.”
