Study with Me | Autumn Quarter, Week 3

I wrote out my study plan on the train this morning, but it felt uptight to squeeze it into the following schedule, so my only goal is to finish reading Kirkpatrick’s Four Levels of Training Evaluation. If I could complete a new chapter of the Choosing Leadership workbook and take a glance through Learning Agile: Understanding Scrum, XP, Lean, and Kanban (for the project management working group I joined in late August), then this quarter will be a “success.”

Date Focus Time
10/6/2023 Just getting started. Accidentally did misc tasks. 0h
10/13/2023 Kirkpatrick’s Four Levels of Training Evaluation 20m

Maybe I will come back later and fill out this table with what I actually did. Each session is three hours and with the remaining sessions and n/a days, there are 15 hours left. So far, I have spent the time mostly catching up with misc tasks, checking in with my teammate, and today, a couple colleagues joined in remotely, so I got to hear about the books they were reading. It actually motivated me to crack open mine. That’s what I’m here for 😊

I had been interested in a “Study with Me” series for a while, inspired by Lofi Girl (of course) but moreso James Scholz on YouTube, who used to livestream himself working at his desk for 12 HOURS. I would open up his video and resize it to fit in the upper left corner of my monitor to keep me company. I loved the real time nature of it where the point is to show up and face the work.

That’s what I tried to do this morning at the office. I arrived to the sunny conference room, opened up all the shades, and brought a few books I meant to finish reading from last year on leadership, Kirkpatrick’s training evaluation model, and thinking in systems. I was excited about spending three hours on “learning” but it slipped into me catching up with tasks from the week 🙃 while listening to this Halloween Lofi Radio.

I miss the rhythm of the academic calendar and knowing which week of the quarter it is. I attended the first of Bach at Bond this past Monday and I’m inspired by the length of the program notes and the idea of documenting throughout a series.

Ok, gotta go, next week I would like to post what I actually plan to study this quarter!
