Postdoctoral Position in Supernova Astrophysics
The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Chicago invites applications for a post-doctoral scholar position to work with Dr. Vikram Dwarkadas, and collaborators at various institutions, on supernova astrophysics. The research involves theoretical studies of the radiative signatures from young supernovae at all wavelengths including radio, optical, X-ray and gamma-ray, to better understand, characterize, and interpret the multi-wavelength emission from supernovae.
Applicants with experience in hydrodynamic modelling of supernovae, in computing the emission from simulations of supernovae at any wavelength, or involved in other relevant aspects of theoretical supernova research, are encouraged to apply.
The initial appointment is for one year, and renewable annually up to 3 years, subject to availability of funding and satisfactory progress. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Physics/Astronomy or related disciplines. Candidates should preferentially have obtained their Ph.D. within the last 2 years.
Application materials should include a brief cover letter, a full curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a research statement which also outlines the applicant’s prior work in the research areas described above. These should be sent in a single PDF file via e-mail to Dr. Vikram Dwarkadas at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please arrange for three confidential letters of reference to be sent to the above email address.
The position will remain open until filled. The starting date is negotiable, but could be anytime in 2021.
