“By graduate students, for graduate students”

Jeri Beiter

2nd Year, Chemistry PhD

jbeiter at uchicago.edu

Jeri is a second-year physical chemistry student in the Voth Group. After receiving her B.S. in chemistry from the Rochester Institute of Technology, she came to University of Chicago to pursue her interests in computational biophysics. She has been a member of the Voth Group since the fall of 2019 and is interested in studying the remodeling of membranes and membrane proteins using molecular dynamics and coarse-grained simulations.

Sarah Brown

6th Year, Chemistry PhD

sbrown15 at uchicago.edu

Sarah is a sixth year physical chemistry student in the Sibener Group. Originally from Montreal, Quebec (Canada), she came to the University of Chicago after completing her B.Sc. at McGill. Her research uses UHV-STM/AFM to study the reaction kinetics of organic self-assembled monolayers on metal surfaces. When not in the lab, she can usually be found on the soccer field, in the Ida Noyes dance studio, or scuba diving in the Ratner pool.

Grace Liu

3rd Year, Chemistry PhD

liuyu at uchicago.edu

Grace is a third-year physical chemistry student in the Voth group. She came to the University of Chicago after receiving B.Sc. in chemistry from University of Chinese Academy of Science (UCAS). Her research focuses on the mechanism of the proton and substrate transport in membrane proteins. Outside the lab, she enjoys exploring local restaurants and the lake view.

Tessa Lynch-Colameta

5th Year, Chemistry PhD

colameta at uchicago.edu

Tessa is a fifth year PhD Candidate in Chemistry in the Snyder Group at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on methodology development for the application to complex natural product synthesis. Originally from Boston, Tessa stayed there to receive her BA/MA in Chemistry from Boston University. At UChicago, she is an active member of the Women in Chemistry group, The Office of the Provost’s Sexual Misconduct Student Advisory Board, and the Department of Chemistry Ombudspersons. Outside of the lab, she enjoys cooking, exploring Chicago, and hanging with her two cats.

Julia Murphy

5th Year, Chemistry PhD

jgmurphy102 at uchicago.edu

Julia received her B.Sc. in chemistry from the University of Alabama and she is currently a fifth year physical chemistry Ph.D. student in Steven Sibener’s group. Her research focuses on using AFM to study polymer self-assembly and novel materials for water filtration. Outside of the lab, Julia is usually in the ballet studio, at home cooking, or exploring Chicago.

Nanetta Pon

4th Year, Chemistry PhD

npon at uchicago.edu

Nanetta is a fifth-year in the Rowan group studying stimulus-responsive polymer nanocomposites. Prior to coming to Chicago, she received her BS in materials chemistry from UCLA and worked in biotech in San Francisco. Outside the lab, she enjoys cycling, kayaking, and growing peppers and mushrooms.
