Each year, elementary school students from around Southside Chicago visit the University of Chicago with their families to attend “Physics with a Bang!,” hosted by the UChicago Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. On December 7 2019, the GCIS atrium was transformed into Demo Alley, where students participated in hands-on science demos led by graduate students in STEM fields with topics ranging from waves to vacuums. This year, WiC participated in Physics with a Bang for the first time and hosted our own demo table, showing an nylon synthesis and highlighting women scientists. The day was a tremendous success, and we hope to continue this tradition in future years.
