Hi Everyone,
Thank you once again for your interest in the WiC+/WiGS+ Summer Book Club! I’m happy to report that the top 3 voted books are:
  1. The Exceptions: Nancy Hopkins, MIT, and the Fight for Women in Science by Kate Zernike
  2. The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist by Ben Barres (tied for 2nd)
  3. The Disordered Cosmos: A Journey into Dark Matter, Spacetime, and Dreams Deferred by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein (tied for 2nd)
We will be reading the books in the above order, beginning with The Exceptions by Kate Zernike.
If you have requested a physical copy of the book, please come to Kent 114 on Wednesday (7/19) or Thursday (7/20) between 5:00-5:30 pm to pick it up! If you are not in the Chemistry Department, note that you will need to Venmo for ½ the price of the book ($15) at pick-up.

If you are purchasing your books on a Kindle and are eligible for reimbursement, please send your receipts and a filled-out reimbursement form to me Allison Hohreiter (ahohreit@uchicago.edu). In the reimbursement form please note the amount you’re requesting to be reimbursed (1/2 price for non-Chem PSD students, full price for Chem students) and you’ll be reimbursed accordingly.
We’ll set our reading schedule at our first meeting on Thursday, 8/3, from 5:00-6:00 pm in Kent 114, where there will be snacks and beverages available. For this first meeting, please aim to read the first 6 chapters.
Let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and we look forward to seeing all of you soon 🙂
Best,

Your 2022-2023 WiC+ and WiGS+ Boards
