Year of Games

About Us

Core goals for the Year of Games include:

  • Sharing the work of our campus’ game creators, digital media artists, students, faculty, and staff with the broader community, and highlighting the university’s growing reputation as a center of games design and research
  • Producing and sharing knowledge about games and play as cultural objects and practices, and contributing to emerging interdisciplinary fields of academic study
  • Drawing attention to the ways games and play, broadly conceived, are approached across the University of Chicago’s Divisions and units, thereby stimulating interdisciplinary discussion and fostering partnerships
  • Encouraging collaboration between students and faculty and the continued development of resources that benefit students, staff, faculty, and alumni
  • Building and strengthening connections both on and off campus, including those with local residents and members of the Chicago community, alumni, game designers and scholars, and the games industry
  • Supporting University advancement activities and laying the groundwork for future games- and play-related initiatives on campus that expand related collections, research opportunities, events, and dedicated campus spaces
  • Having fun as a community and strengthening UChicago’s appeal as a destination for prospective students!
