When I started the game EVE Online for my participant observation, I was pretty overwhelmed by the amount of information, and was unsure on what to focus.  And it was especially hard to observe participants when I was separated from other players by hundreds of kilometers.  But I became really interested in the interactions happening all throughout the game: the economy.  Through 20 hours of playing the game, I found three broad mechanisms that are affecting EVE’s economy: the control of pricing by EVE players, differences between regions and regional markets, and large-scale player actions.  It was really fun to learn more about such a deep game and learn from other player’s experiences with the game.
