NIA T32 Training Programs

CHABLIS is proud to support the administration of several NIA T32 programs administered through the Center for Health and the Social Sciences. Learn more about our portfolio of NIA funded training programs below:

NIA R25 Cultivating Health and Aging Researchers by Integrating Medicine, Science and Aging (CHARISMA)

CHARISMA prepares undergraduate students from populations underrepresented in medicine and the sciences to become clinical research leaders to address the health needs of an aging America. A diverse medical and scientific workforce is critical to ensuring that the knowledge available to future health care providers, researchers, and policymakers is informed by diverse individuals who are most familiar with the needs of an equally diverse older population.
To increase diversity in medicine, science, and the aging-related clinical research workforce, CHARISMA offers eligible students a variety of research training and clinical shadowing opportunities.

NIA T35 Short-term Aging-related Research (STAR) Program

The Medical Student Short-Term Aging-Related (STAR) Research Program offers first-year medical students opportunities to participate in aging-related research and training through the Pritzker Summer Research Program. STAR trains these future physician leaders to apply basic, clinical, and social science concepts and methods to the study and care of older persons.

NIA T32 MD/PhD Program in Medicine, the Social Sciences, and Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (MeSH) (MD-PhD AD/ADRD)

MeSH at the University of Chicago trains medical students to become innovative physician-scholars at the critical interface of medicine and society. The MeSH program is an opportunity for students interested in obtaining an MD and a PhD in a field outside of the traditional biological and physical sciences. Former students have pursued PhDs in such wide ranging fields as anthropology, conceptual and historical studies of science, economics, public policy, and social service administration. Started in 1985, MeSH is one of the only programs of its kind in the country.

NIA T32 Demography and Economics of Aging

The Predoctoral Specialized Training Program in the Demography and Economics of Aging at the University of Chicago trains graduate students interested in the fields of demography and economics of aging through the development of basic and applied research and policy-making and analysis.

The Postdoctoral Specialized Training Program in the Demography and Economics of Aging shares the aims of the predoctoral program. Three postdoctoral fellowships are offered per year. The goal of these postdoctoral fellowships is to train recent doctoral recipients interested in the demographic and economic analysis of aging through the development of basic methodological tools, applied research, policy-making and analysis, and professional development.
