Data_Chi  –  Be Wise. Be Well.

Data_Chi was founded by University of Chicago graduate student Tom Matich in 2018 to raise awareness and advocacy for transparency and fairness in the calculation and dissemination of “health scores.” These socioeconomic health “e-scores” are used by health insurance companies to analyze risk and may have policy and rate implications.

The majority of the variables that are used in these scores, such as marital status, income and education level, are peripheral to a patient’s health and could be considered bias as well as privacy intrusive. Data_Chi’s mission is to make these scores and reports public akin to FICO credit scores, advocating for proper regulation in their factoring and empowering patients to have access to all of the elements of their healthcare data.
