Sanger (DNA) Sequencing Core

There will be delayed turnaround times on your sequencing orders next week (beginning Apr 29), especially those placed on Monday and Tuesday. It is possible that orders will not be delivered for 3 to 4 days. We will do our best to return all orders placed Monday – Wednesday by the end of the week and will provide an update on Wednesday morning.

We realize this affects your research progress and apologize for the disruption. If your timelines do not permit these delays, please consider using the Plasmidsaurus services or Azenta/Genewiz Sanger sequencing services. Both are already set up as UChicago vendors in Buysite and have dropboxes on campus: Plasmidsaurus outside our core (KCBD 1230H) and Azenta in GCIS W403M with a 4 pm pickup time. Other core users have noted that Azenta/Genewiz sample submission guidelines must be followed closely to ensure quality results. Some basic information for using Azenta Sanger sequencing below:

  • Pricing depends on the specifics of your order.
  • Turnaround time
    • Standard orders: noon the day following order delivery at Azenta
    • *Same day: the day the order is received (by 10am) at Azenta
  • Getting started using Azenta:
  1. Create an Azenta account. Consider setting up a lab account. Provide the following billing information:

The University of Chicago
Phone: (773) 702-5800
*Email: invoices@uchicago.edu*
P.O. Box 1017
South Bend, IN 46624
United States

*suggested: ALSO list a lab contact email address

  1. Generate a quote for your sanger sequencing needs. Consider requesting a single quote for multiple orders that will be paid by the same grant/account.
  2. Use this quote to submit a requisition in Buysite. On the Buysite landing page under Forms select either One-time Order or Standing Order depending on whether you plan to submit one or multiple orders from the same quote next week.
  3. A Purchase Order (PO) should be established from this requisition within one business day. Reference the resulting PO when you place an order through Azenta’s website.

At this time I cannot offer additional support beyond the above information. If you require more support, please consider asking the person that manages purchasing for your lab or reach out to the UChicago Azenta sales rep: Emily.Fish@azenta.com.

Delayed timelines are becoming uncommon. I am working towards cross training staff from the genomics core to limit these interruptions in the future.

I will do my best to efficiently return emails when I return on Wednesday, but will be prioritizing restoring our sequencing timeline and delivering data. I greatly appreciate your effort to follow order submission guidelines and, as possible, rely on the information provided on our website and the DNA Order Portal. I will update the latter to reflect this information ASAP.

Thank you,
Amie
