General Accommodation and Travel

University of Chicago’s campus is located in Hyde Park, about nine miles south of the Loop.

Coming to Chicago

Chicago is served by both Midway and O’Hare airports. Midway is much smaller and more convenient to Hyde Park, but flights into O’Hare are often cheaper.

Please keep in mind that taxis and rideshares in Chicago can be very expensive; plan to spend at least $30 for a ride between Midway and UChicago campus, and between $50-$100 for a ride between O’Hare and campus.

U Chicago is also served by a more inexpensive airport shuttle service. You can find more information here.

We recommend taking public transportation, which is convenient and inexpensive from both airports. Transit cards are available for purchase from machines at both.

Directions to Campus from Midway

The 55 bus will take you directly from Midway to Hyde Park.

The Orange Line will take you from Midway to the Loop, which will allow you to access the rest of the city.

Directions to Campus from O’Hare

To reach the eastern side of Hyde Park: take the Blue Line from O’Hare to the Loop. Get off at the Washington Station and walk (east) to State Street to catch the 6 bus and get off at the nearest numbered street to your destination.

To reach the Western side of Hyde park: take the Blue Line from O’Hare. Transfer to the Green Line at Clark/Lake. Ride the Green Line to Garfield, and catch the 55 bus to the Museum of Science and Industry. Get off at the nearest named street to your destination (this route will also get you to East Hyde Park eventually).

Accommodation

Hyde Park has a Hyatt Place located near campus. There are also plenty of affordable AirBnBs in the neighborhood. Hostels and other affordable accommodation are readily available outside of Hyde Park. When researching these options, we recommend keeping your access to public transportation in mind.

Please reach out to us if you’re struggling to find suitable accommodation and travel arrangements. During the conference we’ll be happy to provide further food and activity recommendations.
