This summer the Hyde Park Farmers Market is switching up its musical performers with “Market Beats” a series featuring 25 local DJs, including several teens. The DJ series is sponsored by the University of Chicago in partnership with Downtown Hyde Park and the South East Chicago Commission. DJs will spin at Harper Court on Thursdays from June through October, with the first set from 8-10:30 a.m., and the second set from 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Nick Nicholson (DJ Nick Nonstop), owner and CEO of WeJAM DJ Academy, Inc, located in Hyde Park, will provide sound engineering services for the season. His school targets students ages 8-17 through adults, and also provides DJ training for at-risk youth through local non-profit organizations. Eleven of the 25 DJs in the series are WeJAM DJ Academy former students.
Nicholson commented, “The Market Beats series is a fun way to showcase all the local DJ talent in the area. The lineup includes men, women, and several kids as young as 8 years old. People will get to hear some great music while they shop at the Farmers Market or just enjoy lunch outside at Harper Court.”

The Hyde Park Farmers Market takes place on Thursdays from June through October, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harper Court, 5235 S. Harper Court. This season there will be many vendors with produce, flowers, baked goods, and jams/jellies, in addition to hand-crafted items by local artisans.
