The “Welcome to Hyde Park” website and app makes it easy to find local businesses for shopping, eating and drinking, entertainment, sports and leisure, hospitality, and services. There’s also a list of neighborhood landmarks and a full calendar of community events. The free app is available for download at the App Store and Google Play.
The website and app are maintained by the University of Chicago’s Commercial Real Estate Operations (CREO) group as an online version of the department’s printed maps, which have been distributed yearly since 2015. The maps are given out free of charge, and are updated yearly. Printed maps can be requested for Hyde Park businesses, community groups, and residential buildings with an online form.
Users can select from six different business categories, view business locations on the map or in a list, then view the individual business listing with address, phone number, website, and available social media links. The user is then able to navigate directly to the business through Google maps, with options for driving, walking, transit, or ride booking apps such as Uber and Lyft.
