Recycled Modern Highlighted by Chicago Bulls x BMO Harris as Noteworthy Black-Owned Business

Hyde Park’s Recycled Modern at 5231 S. Harper Court, was recently recognized by the Chicago Bulls and BMO Harris as a noteworthy Chicago Black-owned business for February 2024. “The Bulls and BMO are proud to support Black-owned businesses across Chicago. Throughout the 2023-24 season, we are highlighting local Chicago Black-owned businesses that are making a difference in our communities and helping build a stronger Chicago.”

 

 

Owned by Shari Currie, “Recycled Modern is a curated home décor store, art gallery and event lounge which stands to elevate the voices and stories of local artists from diverse backgrounds. (The store) feature(s) vintage and handcrafted home décor, art and lifestyle goods with a focus on black creatives to bridge the gap between the established and the emerging. Cultivating experiences and bringing people together around art, culture, and community is foundational to their mission and purpose.”

 

Bulls Ambassador and retired NBA veteran Eddy Curry and his wife Patrice Curry stopped by Recycled Modern to experience the store in person. Eddy Curry commented, “I think you’re bringing a really cool twist to the neighborhood. I appreciate that.”

The Chicago Bulls/BMO Harris Bank program was launched in 2021 “as a continuation of the team’s social justice efforts” and “…shine a spotlight on deserving local partners, organizations and businesses.” Previous honorees have included Erick Williams’ Virtue Restaurant (February 2022), Maya Camille-Broussard’s Justice of the Pies (February 2021), Eric Williams’ Bronzeville Winery (October 2021).
