Helen and Mike Cameron, Uncommon Ground “Greenest Restaurant in America”
The Frizzell Family Memorial Lecture Series is excited to announce its inaugural lecture event! We welcome Helen and Michael Cameron, of Uncommon Ground, to campus. Uncommon Ground is the world’s greenest restaurant, as certified by the Green Restaurant Association. In addition to building green restaurants with solar thermal panels and recycled wood/plastic composite material, they run their own organic roof top farm above their Devon Street location. The Camerons are fully committed to running an environmentally friendly business, and have received multiple accolades over the years for their work.
Please join us on Tuesday, May 20th, at 1pm at the Quad Club Solarium to hear the Camerons walk us through each element of their restaurant that make it the greenest restaurant in the world and how they balance the business aspect of running a restaurant and their commitment to the environment. Please RSVP here for the lecture.
The following week, on Tuesday, May 27th, the Camerons will host a group of students at their Devon Street location for a tour of the rooftop farm and for a private lunch event. Transportation and food will be covered by the Alexandra Frizzell Memorial Fund. We will be leaving campus around 10am, and would likely return by 2pm. If you would like to go, please sign up here. (Please sign up here if you will not be attending the lecture but would like to go to the restaurant.) Spaces are limited, so it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will reach out to you to confirm your attendance at the lunch event.
The Frizzell Series is meant to commemorate the life, accomplishments and aspirations of Alexandra Frizzell. A young woman whose boundless curiosity about the world fueled audacious learning and strong ties to friends and family alike, Alex was exemplary of the undergraduate for whom wisdom builds upon intelligence. For her, life knowledge, the inspiration of community, and enhancing the chances of others fueled commitment to learning, as well as joy in life. It is hoped that her legacy can affirm and encourage undergraduates coming after her to celebrate the value of education that affirms the building of community, along with the edification of self.
