Application Guidelines for Rapid Response Seed Grant
- This grant funding is between $1,000 to $50,000 and supports research-related costs for work that has been interrupted or will likely be interrupted due to federal funding cuts.
- Please submit budgets that accurately reflect the costs of project plans. We reserve the right to fund grants at reduced levels if needed. I-CARE Program Seed Grants (including Rapid Response funding) are not eligible for a no-cost extension; all funding must be used within a year of the start date.
- All funded projects must have IRB approval, QI determination, or equivalent ethical approval prior to award notifications.

Please note there are no specific page limits for Rapid Response Seed Grant applications overall, as long as the application meets the specified maximum word limits for each section. This application should be completed for the project that is at risk or was interrupted by federal funding cuts. Please submit your application in REDCap, using the word limits below:
- Current Project Title (project that is at risk or was interrupted by federal funding cuts):
- Federal Funding Information (project that is at risk or was interrupted by federal funding cuts):
- Project Objectives (500 words)
- Project Update (500 words)
- Results/Impact (300-500 words)
- Statistical Support Needed (yes/no)
- Checklist – Confirmation of PI status and Ethical Approval (e.g., QI determination and/or IRB approval)
- Budget & Budget Justification
- Budget Table (see example below)
- Budget Narrative (350 words)
- List of Key Personnel (Personnel biosketches should be uploaded separately)
For your proposal to be responsive to this funding opportunity:
- The project should have a primary focus on chronic disease
- The PI must hold a faculty position and have the federal grant awarded to University of Chicago
- The project should support work that has been interrupted or will likely be interrupted due to changes in federal funding
- Please make sure your budget stays within the available funding amount or detail additional funding sources
The following are examples of projects that will be reviewed less favorably:
- Proposals for travel funds for an already completed project (outside of the I-CARE Program)
- Proposals that do not have an interdisciplinary or multi-professional team
