During the Covid-19 pandemic, it is even more essential for patients to have access to affordable and convenient healthcare in America. A national health reform movement would create this meaningful and necessary benefit for all Americans. Healthcare is both an important and vital part that aids patients when sick and helps prevent sickness before it happens. However, the expensive costs of health care are a burden for many citizens of the United States, and thus cause vulnerability for disease, especially in economically underserved communities. Currently, millions of people living in the United States have either experienced or have perished because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The New England Journal of Medicine states that “The Covid-19 pandemic has brought into sharp focus the need for health care reforms that promote universal access to affordable care.” With the lingering effect of the pandemic on citizens, it is imperative that healthcare is affordable and accessible for everyone.

In order to push politicians and insurance companies to make healthcare more affordable, reformation movements are gaining popularity. Reform movements often involve a consensus within a group, because it is critical to inform people about health care reformation in order to spread and popularize the benefits of lower healthcare costs. Currently, steps are being taken to lower the cost of healthcare in America. During his presidential campaign, Vermont Senator Bernard (Bernie) Sanders emphasized the importance of affordable healthcare. In his campaign, he suggested that prices of prescription drugs could be reduced by manufacturers in order to lower costs and help benefit the less fortunate. If a healthcare reformation movement occurred, American citizens would be able to benefit financially.

However, there are currently not many options that will make the reformation happen. In the United States, the financial sector is suffering. In order to make substantial changes to healthcare, the government will need to pay a hefty fee. Despite the costs of reform, overall, an act that expands healthcare access and lowers insurance costs would save lives, and make citizens healthier. Not only will it create a more viable source of equitable care, but it will also push usher in a new and accessible United States.
