Why Should I Join Mock Trial?

Our Track Record

Of the 700 teams that compete in the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), we’re ranked third. Only 25% of the teams that compete in AMTA earn a bid to the Opening Round Championship Series. Of those ~190 teams, only 25% earn a bid to the National Championship Tournament (NCT). Our program has sent a team to nationals for ten consecutive years. For the past three years, we’ve sent two. If you like winning, join UChicago Mock Trial.

Our Travel Plans

Members of mock trial travel all over the country to compete. We stay in hotels together during competition weekends and explore the city at night. Last year, we sent teams to Berkeley, Los Angeles, Irvine, St. Paul, Des Moines, Madison, Memphis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Washington D.C., and New York City. The program covers plane travel, ground transportation, and hotel room fees for all competitors. If you like to travel, join UChicago Mock Trial.

Our Activity

Mock trial isn’t judged by students or other competitors. We’re evaluated by law professors, practicing attorneys, and sitting judges. We connect with legal professionals all across the country. We compete in real courtrooms. And the rules that govern our competition are the same rules that govern actual trial procedure. If you want a competitive experience unlike any other, join UChicago Mock Trial.

Our Team

Mock trial is a family. The club is an easy and immediate way to make friends and meet new people. Our team consists of about 40-50 mockers every year. We host movie nights, student mixers, bowling outings, Chinese food runs, Gingerbread-House-making competitions, Glee watch parties, karaoke contests, Cheesecake Factory dinners, microwave-s’mores tournaments, and good old-fashioned parties. If you want to make life-long friends, join UChicago Mock Trial.
