This year (AY 2024-2025) the Morph-Syn organizers, along with student coordinators at four other Midwestern linguistics departments (UIUC, UMich, IU, and UW-Milwaukee), are excited to present a collaborative project: MWSSE (MidWest Syntax & Semantics Exchange)! The name is pronounced like the English word muse. The goal of MWSSE will is to give students at the five participating schools who are working on relevant projects the chance to present their work (at any stage of completion) in a low-stakes, welcoming way while also building networks, receiving useful feedback, and joining/participating in the intellectual community!
The structure of MWSSE is as follows: it is specifically an exchange between Morph-Syn and the four equivalent reading groups/workshops at the other four participating institutions. Students who wish to present will claim an open date at one of the institutions and work with the student coordinator at that school to work out the logistics of the visit. As MWSSE presentations occur at the various reading groups, this page will be populated with a list of presentations, links to hybrid options where available, and (hopefully) pictures of the visits!
The 5 participating reading groups (with the relevant MWSSE student coordinators) are as follows:
UChicago (Akshay Aitha; aitha@uchicago.edu): Morphology & Syntax Workshop
UIUC (Walther Glodstaf; wag4@illinois.edu): claSSi
UMich (Aya Halabi; halabi@umich.edu): SynSem Discussion Group
IU (Jose Benavides & Elder Henrique Attala e Paiva; josbenav@iu.edu & eattala@iu.edu): Syntax-Semantics Reading Group
UW-Milwaukee (Aisha Fuddah; afuddah@uwm.edu): S-Group
