For Medical Students
OrthoACCESS (Ortho Acting-Intern Coordinated Clinical Education and Surgical Skills) is a longitudinal educational curriculum specifically designed for fourth year medical students pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery.
The group of orthopaedic educators who embarked on this project recognized that students like yourself typically spend 3-4 months doing rotations with a variety of goals including learning about orthopaedic surgery and getting to know a residency program.
In the summer of 2019, we created the curriculum so that it would, in a way, follow students as they rotated at various programs around the country and provide a coordinated education experience during this time.
A follow up survey showed that students who did rotations performed at an institution using the OrthoACCESS curriculum were twice as likely to have structured student-focused lectures.
The COVID-19 crisis has changed the way institutions will approach fourth year rotations. In light of these changes, we will be modifying the curriculum and making this free resource available to you, in several formats:
