SAGSC: South Asia Graduate Student Conference

SAGSC XX: South Asia Graduate Student Conference

The theme for the SAGSC XX is Stories and Storytelling. Stories and their tellings are the bedrock of social life. Origin myths, national histories, religious texts, political manifestos, personal life histories — each of these shape understandings of the human experience and the flow of history. South Asia is a region rich with diverse cultures of storytelling. Join us for a lively discussion around questions surrounding South Asian cultures of storytelling, oral traditions, film/literary/artistic works, and more.

The conference will take place on March 2-3, 2023, at the University of Chicago Swift Lecture Hall and Swift Common Room

We would like to thank the following co-sponsors of the XX SAGSC: Committee on Southern Asian Studies, Franke Institute, Grad Council, Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture, Provost Office, Nicholson Center, Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory, Institute on the Formation of Knowledge, Music Department, Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality, Anthropology Department, Comparative Human Development Department, South Asian Languages and Civilizations, English Department, Cinema and Media Studies, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity, Linguistics Department, and Comparative Literature Department.
