Welcome!

Welcome to our course blogs for Contemporary Art in Paris, taught at the University of Chicago Paris Center.

In this class, we are exploring important institutions and contexts for exhibiting contemporary international art in the city of Paris. Our approach is ethnographic as well as aesthetic and takes place at various scales: from national museums to arts foundations, galleries, artist studios, and alternative spaces and artists’ “squats.” Of special interest is be how different architectures and spaces of installation affect our reception and understanding of art.

On this site you will find reviews of current spring 2017 exhibitions, detailed analysis of individual works of art, and personal observations and commentary, as well as photographs and other documentation.

Your comments are welcome. Enjoy!
