On this page you’ll find a variety of high-quality performance and visual arts education field trips available through Amplify—a partnership of arts and cultural organizations at the University of Chicago including the Smart Museum of Art, Arts + Public Life, Court Theatre, Logan Center for the Arts, and the OI.

The Smart Museum of Art Field Trips
THE SMART MUSEUM OF ART FIELD TRIPS
Tours at the Smart Museum kickstart a journey into the world of ideas. Students explore exhibitions to collectively ask big questions and collaboratively find meaning in the artworks. Tours are designed to allow students to shine by drawing upon their interests and insights.
We can accommodate a limited number of guided K–12 and self-guided group visits.

OI Museum Field Trips
The OI has galleries devoted to the cultures of ancient Egypt, Nubia, Persia, Mesopotamia, Syria, Anatolia, and the Levant. Come visit us to explore the ancient past.
ARTIFACT ANALYSIS
This program engages students’ deductive reasoning skills in a one-hour workshop, examining artifacts to reflect on the people who created and used them while gaining insight into the science and philosophy behind archaeology. This program also includes a tour of the OI Museum.

ANCIENT INNOVATORS
In this object-based program, students explore the concept of innovation through replicas of ancient artifacts. Students work in teams to investigate how Mesopotamians and Egyptians solved problems in everyday life.

OI GENERAL FIELD TRIP OPTIONS
Guided tour
One hour tour led by a docent focused on the history, art, and archaeology of the ancient Middle East and North Africa.
Self-guided tour
The OI has an app to help you customize your visit.
Film and tour option
OI docents lead groups on a one-hour tour, focused on the history, art, and archaeology of the ancient Middle East and North Africa. This is followed by a film of your choice on Ancient Egypt, Ancient Mesopotamia, or the OI’s founding.

Logan Center for the Arts Visits
STUDENT MATINEES
The Logan Center School Matinee series offers diverse performances for K–12 youth. We invite you to participate in this exciting season featuring both local and world-renowned performing artists representing the disciplines of dance, music, storytelling, and poetry at no cost. We premiere two performances each month October through June. In the Fall, we expect to return to in person performances

Court Theatre Student Matinees
STUDENT MATINEES
Bringing classic theatre to Chicago-area high school students through discounted weekday performances of Court’s main stage productions. Each performance is enhanced by pre-performance study guides and post-show discussions with members of the cast and artistic staff.

Multi-site Visits
MULTI-SITE VISITS
When you’re planning a trip to campus, you could take advantage of a multi-site field trip which allows your students to explore different arts disciplines at Amplify organizations over the course of a single day. These experiences are designed to inspire deeper levels of learning and engagement. Students are able to draw connections and explore themes across multiple disciplines, eras, and cultures.
