Presenter bio: Patrick Keating is a Professor in the Department of Communication at Trinity University in San Antonio, where he teaches courses in film history and video production. He is the author of several books on the history of cinematography, including The Dynamic Frame: Camera Movement in Classical Hollywood (2019) and Film Noir and the Arts of Lighting (2024). He is working on a new project about the history of lighting in global art cinema, with examples from 1946 to 1978. His video essays can be found on Vimeo.

Respondent bio: Maria Belodubrovskaya is Associate Professor in the Department of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago. She is the author of Not According to Plan: Filmmaking under Stalin (2017) and works on film history, theory, and aesthetics.
