Zach Yost is a PhD candidate in Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago, whose research concerns the work of media within scientific practice, communication, and pedagogy. His dissertation on educational, recreational, and scientific “programming games” examines how and why digital games have been employed as a primary cultural form for habituating popular conceptions and practices of computation. Additional projects of his address the use of games and other media models in the environmental and social sciences.
