Dr. Jai Yu has been appointed an Assistant Professor starting July 2020. Jai joins us from a postdoctoral research position at the University of California San Francisco. His graduate work was at the Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna, Austria, and he did his undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne, Australia. The Yu Lab will investigate how the brain distills knowledge from everyday experiences. Understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms behind this process is a primary focus. His lab specifically will determine how coordinated activity across multiple brain regions plays a role in this process. Experimentally, the lab will combine neural activity recording across multiple brain regions, ethologically inspired behavior tasks, genetic tools to manipulate neural circuit activity, and computational techniques for modelling large-scale neural data. Jai will welcome applications for doctoral training and postdoctoral fellowships beginning in the summer or fall of 2020.
