With the annual professional music conferences for the American Musicological Society and Society for Music Theory approaching, we will again be hosting dry-run sessions for our colleagues who plan to present. Due to the number of students presenting this year, we will be splitting the dry runs into two sessions. This Wednesday, October 16, we will be hearing from AMS presenters, and the following Wednesday, October 23, we will hear presentations for SMT as well as AMS. Both meetings will be held from 4:30-6:00 pm in Logan 802.

The sessions will proceed as follows (presenter order is subject to change):

October 16

Barbara Dietlinger, “Music as the Bearer of Identity: The Centenary of the Reformation in Dresden, 1617.” (AMS)

Bradley Spiers, “Music, Mind, and the Moral Fantasy of Enlightenment Automata.” (AMS)

October 23

Zachary Loeffler, “‘Real Magic’: A Genealogy of the Recital Encore.” (AMS)

Julianne Grosso, “Like, Comment, and Subscribe: Amateur Music Theory as Participatory Culture.” (SMT)

George Adams, “Voice, Technology, and Agent-Classes in Steve Reich’s Tape-Works.” (SMT)

Presentation papers will not be circulated in advance, but will be provided to attendees on the day of the session in order to facilitate more in-depth feedback and discussion.

As always, refreshments will be served. Please feel free to contact either Anna (abgatdula@uchicago.edu) or Alex (murphya1@uchicago.edu) with any questions or concerns. Persons who need assistance should notify the coordinators in advance.
