These workshops are meant to provide the fundamentals of key transferrable skills often needed in the workplace. Past topics such as grant writing, project management, pitches and proposals, business communication, EQ, intercultural communication, assessment for quality improvement, and visually appealing presentations were very popular. Not all sessions are recorded, but when they are we will make them available on this page.
Project Management | Nicole Lee (AM ’11). Nicole C. Lee is a Research Survey Scientist at RTI International. She has ten years of experience managing various survey projects for clients such as the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the Chicago Department of Public Health, Ohio State University, and West Virginia University. In her role at RTI, she works with clients and investigators to build survey instruments, oversees data collection and survey operations, and leads multiple project teams. Ms. Lee earned her Master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago (MAPSS) in 2011. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communication from the Macaulay Honors College at Baruch College and most recently earned her PMP in 2021. She has served as a Communications Committee member for the American Association for Public Opinion Research and as President of the Southern Association for Public Opinion Research. Grant Writing | Cate Goebel. Cate Goebel, Associate Dean, Research and Strategic Initiatives at University of Chicago covers the basic concepts of grant writing. In her role, she works closely with the Dean to advance the Division’s research priorities and initiatives and leads a team of research development professionals who work with faculty across the Division of the Social Sciences, Harris School of Public Policy, and Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice to maximize research productivity and impact. Goebel also oversees the Social Science Research Center (SSRC), a research accelerator space that supports an evolving portfolio of sponsored research projects, offers a competitive seed-grant program for SSD faculty, and provides programming for faculty and graduate student researchers related to social research resources and methodologies. Goebel has a nearly 20 years of experience securing extramural support for research and programs, and a broad range of non-profit management experience, having worked previously for the Field Museum, a cancer research organization, and Barnard College. She holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Columbia University. Recording
