Please join the Affect and the Emotions Workshop
Monday, November 9th when
Russell Johnson
Divinity School Teaching Fellow in the Divinity School and the College
University of Chicago
presents the paper:
“ Fear of the Unknown, Hope in the Unseen ”
“Fear rather involves a combination of knowing and unknowing—for example, knowing that a spider is in the room but not knowing where it went. Fear thus shares something in common with the blend of knowing and unknowing that is religious faith. The biblical idea that ‘the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,’ seen through the lens of Wittgenstein’s philosophical psychology, offers valuable insights into the complicated rational-emotional nature of religious commitment.”
MONDAY, November 9th On Zoom
PLEASE NOTE THE DIFFERENT TIME: 4:00-5:30pm CT
