The workshop will begin 2021 by devoting January to reading, thinking about, and discussing Silvan Tomkin’s writings on affect, culminating in a session led by guest speakers Elizabeth Wilson and Adam Frank later in the month. To kick off this month-long theme, workshop co-coordinator Jane Gordon will lead the workshop in a discussion of “Chapter 1: What are Affects?” and “Chapter 6: Shame-Humiliation and Contempt-Disgust” from Shame and its Sisters: A Silvan Tomkins Reader, which is available online here.
