2022 Education and Society Minor Graduating Seniors

Annabelle Bailey

Annabelle Bailey, a 2022 graduate, didn’t go directly into the education field after graduation, but considers the EDSO minor a highlight of her college career.

As a biology major, the EDSO courses offered a chance to be well-rounded academically and as a bonus she realized that the minor is full of the most thoughtful and engaging people at the university.

She now attends medical school with the intention of specializing in family medicine or pediatrics where she thinks that the minor will be immensely helpful by providing a better understanding of how structural factors outside of the doctor’s office might be influencing the identity, development, and physical/mental health of her patients!

Sydney Buffonage

Sydney graduated summa cum laude from UChicago with a Psychology Major and an EDSO Minor. Sydney now works as a Lab Manager for the Cognitive Origins Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she gets to merge her interests in psychology and education. She researches children’s early math learning, with her current work focusing on a count list training study designed to improve preschoolers’ fluency with the count list. The classes that Sydney took through the EDSO program highlighted the disparities pervasive in children’s access to quality education, motivating her to work on psychology interventions that target these disparities. She ultimately intends to pursue her PhD in Developmental Psychology.

Mya Dudley

Mya developed her passion for education while studying under the Education & Society Minor at UChicago. Taking classes about social and cultural inequalities found in schools influenced her to be an educator to mitigate those issues in her future classroom. She is currently working as a Chicago Resident Teacher through the Academy for Urban School Leadership program while also pursuing her Masters of Education at DePaul University.
