The Illinois Retail Merchants Association (IRMA) announced state-wide senior shopping hours at national Illinois grocery stores including ALDI, Jewel-Osco, Mariano’s, Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and others.
ALDI – 6621 S. Cottage Grove Avenue
ALDI stores will open at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we ask that this first hour is reserved for our most vulnerable shoppers, including senior citizens, expectant mothers, and those with underlying health conditions. ALDI stores across the country will be open for regular hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Some stores may have limited hours to accommodate restocking and cleaning.
Binny’s – 1240 E. 47th Street
Starting Monday, March 23, Binny’s is offering special shopping hours between 12-1 p.m.
Jewel-Osco – 6014 S. Cottage Grove Avenue
Vulnerable population including senior citizens and pregnant individuals are invited to have priority shopping on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7- 9 a.m.
Local Market Foods – 2101 E. 71st Street
Local Market Foods offers senior shopping hours from 6-7 a.m. daily.
Mariano’s – 3857 S. Martin Luther King Drive
Mariano’s offers special shopping hours from 6-8 a.m. daily.
Target – 1346 E. 53rd Street
All Target stores will be closing at 9 p.m. daily so stores will be replenished and deep cleaned. Also beginning March 18, Target will reserve the first hour of shopping each Wednesday at stores nationwide for vulnerable guests – including elderly and those with underlying health concerns. Target is encouraging other guests to plan their shopping trips around this timeframe.
Trader Joe’s – 1528 E. 55th Street
At Trader Joe’s we pride ourselves on treating all of our customers equitably. Over the past few weeks we have heard from our senior customers about the need for assistance in the morning to get in and out of our stores quickly. We’ve listened, and effective Monday, March 23rd we will implement the following:
Store hours will remain 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Every day between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., Crew Members will maintain an additional line outside the front door for our senior customers. This will ensure that those customers in need will have an expedited entrance to the store to help make their experience a more positive one.
Our Crew Members in each of our stores remain committed to these ideas and, as always, will be ready to help any customer needing extra assistance for any reason.
Whole Foods – 5118 S. Lake Park Avenue
The Hyde Park location of Whole Foods offers special shopping hours for customers aged 60+ from 8-9 a.m.
