HISTORICAL CAPITALISMS & SOCIAL THEORY (2018/2019)

In the 2018/2019 academic year, the Social Theory and Historical Capitalisms workshops will merge into a new, joint workshop titled Historical Capitalisms & Social Theory.

The Historical Capitalisms & Social Theory Workshop supports scholarship, from across the humanities and social sciences, that explores the past, present, and future of capitalist societies through critical approaches that treat the capitalist economy as a historical product of social, cultural, and political discourses, ideas, and practices while also being attentive to questions of knowledge, reflexivity, the self and subjectivity, social relations of power, and domination.

We welcome papers by graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty from all departments as well as by guests from beyond the University of Chicago. Workshop papers may be drafts of dissertation chapters, journal articles, book chapters, and dissertation proposals.

The Workshop meets on alternate Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Wilder House: 5811 South Kenwood Ave., Chicago, IL 60637
