Statement from the Coordinators
We, the coordinators and faculty sponsors of the Medieval Studies Workshop, would like to state unequivocally that we are opposed to expressions of bigotry in all forms. As the organizers of the most important forum for promoting and discussing Medieval Studies on our campus, we write to affirm that our workshop aims to build an inclusive community, dedicated to vigorous scholarly inquiry, which welcomes all members of the university along with scholars from the Chicago area and beyond. In light of changes in the political climate at the University of Chicago and of broader shifts in patterns of political discourse, we intend to be active in organizing and promoting events that will enable us to think critically about the roles medievalists can play in addressing today’s pressing questions. We will keep you updated on our plans; and, as always, welcome ideas and suggestions about how to pursue our common aims.
