Please join the Middle East History and Theory Workshop on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 3:00 PM in Pick 218 (Farouk Mustafa Memorial Lecture Room).
Our speaker is Carol Fan (NELC) who will present the paper “Studying Ming-Timurid Relations: Sources and Scholarship in Chinese.” The discussant is August Samie (NELC).
The paper will be distributed via our listserv. Please try to read it in advance for an informed discussion.

Please join the Middle East History and Theory Workshop on Friday, November 4th, at 11:30 AM in Pick 218 (Farouk Mustafa Memorial Lecture Room).
We will be joined by Prof. Rebecca Johnson before her CMES lecture at 4:30 in order to discuss her article “Importing the Novel: The Arabic Novel in and as Translation,” and conduct a close reading of an English translation from Aḥmad Fāris al-Shidyāq’s Al-sāq ‘alā l-sāq (Leg over Leg).
The article, primary source, and an optional reading from Dr. Johnson about Al-sāq ‘alā l-sāq will be distributed in advance. Please try to read some of these materials in advance for a productive workshop.
