Fellowship Program Details

The University of Chicago-Northshore CGSO fellowship is an ACGME approved fellowship. We currently accept 1 fellow per year with the fellowship duration of 2 years.

Characteristics of Trainees

We are looking for individuals with great potential who are interested and talented in the care of the oncologic patient but also have an interest in improving the field of cancer surgery via either research, quality improvement, education or leadership.

Educational Conferences

Monday 4-5 pm: CGSO Fellow Lecture (alternates between didactics, journal club, case conference)

Wednesday 6:45 am – 8:30 am: Section M and M and Grand Rounds

Thursday 6:15am – 7 am: Surgical Oncology Conference

Board Prep Resources

The program fully supports our fellows in attending the fellows institute. We also pay for our senior fellow to attend the CGSO board prep course. The program subscribes to the CGSO score module and also provides educational resources via mock oral exams.

Clinical Responsibilities

Services are separate between the surgical oncology fellows and the chief residents. There are advanced level providers on majority of services.

Fellow have gone for 1 month international rotations (2019: Chile, 2016: China and Chile) which are supported by housing and salary support.

Fellows do not take in house call.

Moonlighting

Moonlighting options are available but not mandatory at University of Chicago Affiliate Institutions.
