Talia Berkowitz
Talia Berkowitz is a postdoctoral research scholar in the Department of Psychology under the guidance of Dr. Susan Levine. Talia was an Institute of Educational Sciences Predoctoral Fellow and the recipient of two Successful Pathways from School to Work grants from the Hyman Milgrom Supporting Organization. Prior to arriving at the University of Chicago, she received a BA in Psychology at Barnard College and worked as a research assistant at Wesleyan University.
Talia’s research focuses on how children’s early math input relates to future math learning and achievement. She is particularly interested in how parents’ attitudes and beliefs relate to variations in their math engagement with their children, and her current work focuses on developing and evaluating interventions to promote parent-child interactions around math.
Russell Bittmann
Russell is currently a Senior Economist at Bates White consulting in Washington DC. Russell received a doctoral degree from the Department of Economics in 2018. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, where he was a James B. Angell Scholar and won the John Elliot Parker Memorial Prize for outstanding written contribution to labor economics for his senior thesis. Prior to beginning his graduate work, Russell was a Graduate Research Assistant at NORC at the University of Chicago.
Based on detailed data on student outcomes and performance, Russell’s research measured the effect of charter school entry on public school achievement.
