Mandy Terc is a PhD candidate in linguistic anthropology at the University of Michigan. Her dissertation examines the role that English usage plays in new kinds of social mobility made possible by economic liberalization in contemporary Syria. She has a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard and an undergrad degree from Princeton.
