This Tuesday, April 5th, at 12:00 PM Noon in Pick Hall 218, the Shi’ism Discussion Group will be hosting a presentation by a leading expert on Shi’ism, Dr. Andrew Newman from the University of Edinburgh.

Dr. Newman is a Reader in Islamic Studies and Persian with the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He has authored and edited numerous books and articles on Shi’ism, including Safavid Iran: Rebirth of a Persian Empire (London: I B Tauris, 2006) and The Formative Period of Shi’i Law: Hadith as Discourse Between Qum and Baghdad (Richmond, Surrey: Curzon, 2000). He also administers the email listhost “Shii News,” which lately has provided the best updates available on the ongoing sectarian tensions in Bahrayn.
