Kevin ulrich

Kevin ulrich

DIRECTOR

Kevin returned as Director of the Survey Lab in November of 2014. His expertise includes developing and applying strategies to efficiently maximize recruitment and retention of survey participants. Kevin earned both his MA in social science and BA in sociology from the University of Chicago. Kevin is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Midwest Chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (MAPOR) and the Communications Coordinator for the Association of American Survey Research Organizations (AASRO).

martha van haitsma

CO-DIRECTOR

Martha has co-directed or directed the Survey Lab since its inception in 2001. Martha earned her PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago and her MA from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2014 she received the John M. Kennedy Achievement Award by the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations (AASRO).

HILLARY HANSON

HILLARY HANSON

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Hillary began working as an Operations Manager for the Survey Lab in 2011. She earned her MA in social science from the University of Chicago and her BS in psychology from Iowa State University. Hillary specializes in planning, staffing, training, and monitoring progress for large field studies. In addition to her work at the Survey Lab, Hillary enjoys yoga, cooking, and planning her next travel adventure.

CARSON GAFFNEY

CARSON GAFFNEY

RESEARCH SPECIALIST

Carson began work as a Research Assistant at the Survey Lab in 2015 while pursuing her degree in the college. In 2018 she returned to the Lab staff as a Research Specialist. Carson earned her BA in sociology and gender & sexuality studies from the University of Chicago. Carson lives in Hyde Park with her dog, Tooba.

ASHLEY AYLWARD

RESEARCH SPECIALIST

Ashley earned her BA in political science from Goucher College. She began her work in public opinion polling as a Student Supervisor for the Goucher Poll, where she worked for the majority of her undergraduate career. In 2018, Ashley received the Sarah T. Hughes Award for Practical Politics from Goucher College for her work at the Goucher Poll. Ashley joined the Survey Lab as a Research Specialist in January 2019.

Survey Lab Operations Assistants work across projects to support daily operations and data collection for the Lab. Benjamin earned his MA in social sciences  at the University of Chicago.

SANDRA FUENTES HASHIMOTO

SANDRA FUENTES HASHIMOTO

OPERATIONS ASSISTANT

Sandra is currently working as an Operations Assistant at the Survey Lab. Sandra is a second year student at the Harris School of Public Policy, where she is pursuing a Masters in Public Policy. Before coming to the University of Chicago, she used to work as a public policy consultant in Mexico City. She worked on projects related to public health, crime and violence prevention, innovation, entrepreneurship, education, urban policy, housing, and economic development. She earned her BA in international relations and economics at Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM).

Neomi earned her BA in linguistics and BS in biology from the University of Maryland. She is enrolled in the MA program in social sciences at the University of Chicago and works at the Survey Lab as an Operations Assistant.

Sanchita earned her MA in social sciences from the University of Chicago. She joined the Survey Lab as an Operations Assistant in November 2017. She is interested in gender and sexuality and is looking forward to pursuing a PhD.
