Kevin returned as Director of the Survey Lab in November of 2014. His expertise includes developing and applying strategies to efficiently maximize recruitment and retention of survey participants. Kevin earned both his MA in social science and BA in sociology from the University of Chicago. Kevin is the Vice-President/President-Elect of the Midwest Chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (MAPOR). Prior to returning to the Survey lab, Kevin managed the Survey Research Program at Group Health Research Institute (now the Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute) in Seattle, WA.
martha van haitsma
Martha has co-directed or directed the Survey Lab since its inception in 2001. Martha earned her PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago and her MA from the University of Texas at Austin. Martha is the President of the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations (AASRO).
Hillary began working as an Operations Manager for the Survey Lab in 2011. She earned her MA in social science from the University of Chicago and her BS in psychology from Iowa State University. Hillary specializes in planning, staffing, training, and monitoring progress for large field studies. In addition to her work at the Survey Lab, Hillary enjoys yoga, cooking, and planning her next travel adventure.
Carson began work as a Research Assistant at the Survey Lab in 2015 while pursuing her degree in the college. In 2018 she returned to the Lab staff as a Research Specialist. Carson earned her BA in sociology and gender & sexuality studies from the University of Chicago. Carson lives in Hyde Park with her dog, Tooba.
Karlyn joined the Survey Lab as an Operations Assistant in 2019. She is currently pursuing an MA at the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration where her studies focus on urban education systems. She received her BA in psychology from Oberlin College. In addition to her work at the Survey Lab, Karlyn performs and teaches violin.
