This Spring don’t miss the chance to read and translate Italian comics with me, Sara Dallavalle.
I know that some of you might be asking, “Why comics?”, so let me tell you!
Comics present a variety of registers, from the elevated language of literary adaptations to creative parodies, from the standard Italian adopted in serial comics to the colloquial or regional Italian used in graphic novels and webcomics. In this cours, you will participate in textual and visual analysis and translation tasks from Italian to English, thinking critically about the interconnections between language, culture, and society and developing a deep insight into the visual context to appraise the cultural iconography of the source and target countries.
This course will give you a chance to reflect on the mechanism of the language, interpret Italian cultural and societal aspects, and apply your competence in career-oriented coursework.
